Multiplayer games for career design

Could your career and skill set be accelerated through multiplayer games?

I reckon so.

The future of learning won’t (and shouldn’t) look like today’s company training programs, universities, or online courses.

My bet is the next generation of educational products take inspiration from the stuff I discovered at NYC’s Uncommons board game cafe this week.

Yeah, you probably don’t need to solve 19th century murders to help get promoted to VP, or survive in a desert as proof of your problem solving skills.

BUT…

  • stepping into the shoes of a compelling protagonist;
  • working with imperfect information;
  • playing out scenarios;
  • becoming more strategic;


and being able to do all this online, in-person, solo or in groups… that’s exciting.

When it comes to building professionals skills and confidence, these methods can be amazingly effective when done right. Which is why me and the Wavetable crew are going deep in the game.

And in a world where entertainment is merging into all kinds of other forms, we might even see Robert Downey Jr or Benedict Cumberbatch showing up to play a cameo…
