Dumbo Moving's marketing moves
How to stand out from the crowd and find big spending customers... at close to zero cost. Just add packing tape

The best bit of marketing I've seen in a while? Three tough guys, a gaggle of kids, and... moving boxes.
On a Brooklyn street corner this weekend, Dumbo Moving stole the show at a free 'Back to School' event. They rolled up with:
🏰 A huge, free-to-paint castle made of moving boxes
🚂 A train built from dollies, crates, and packing tape
💪🏽 Dumbo’s top mover talent as the locomotive power
In a sea of kid-focused businesses, these removalists stood out. Why? They understood their audience better than anyone.
The genius of box-castle marketing:
- Families = bigger moves, greater pain, higher spend
- Parents love free, fun Sunday activities
- Trust-building (would you let strangers move your kids otherwise?)
- People talk about experiences (exhibit A: this post)
- Community event sponsorship = local goodwill
It's product marketing at its finest. Low cost, high impact.
And this isn't Dumbo's first rodeo. Last summer they turned a moving truck into a mini nightclub for kids, complete with DJ booth.
This isn't rocket science. There's plenty of more sophisticated marketing out there. But sometimes, the simplest ideas pack the biggest punch.
What's a time you've seen a business nail it with something refreshingly straightforward?
P.S. Full disclosure: I've used Dumbo Moving twice. They're good. Special shout out to crew 94, straight outta Tbilisi.
